Whenever someone asks me what I do and what the Worship Track of CGA is, I tend to launch into an abstract, symbolic, prophetic description of it. It’s this thing I was a part of that I now lead and it’s about worship but it’s not at the same time… and then I remember that they asked what it is, not what it means. And then I have to start all over.

It’s hard for me to not describe it like that because it really was launched by a move of God. It wasn’t a great plan that a few smart people came up with, it was just a few people saying yes to a rumor and a vision God had placed on their hearts. The full story of how it started will take too long to get into now, but just know that it has some fun history and it definitely has an interesting future. We’re beginning to gain some perspective on it now like never before. Seeing worship track as a part of the movement of God here in Gainesville, instead of the movement itself. We weren’t being arrogant when we saw it as the movement, we just couldn’t see the scale on which God intended to move. And He certainly intends to move.

What does it look like right now though? It looks like a group of crazy young missionaries gathering 4 afternoons a week and some odd hours of the night. Sometimes worshiping, sometimes sitting under teaching, sometimes crying or dancing, sometimes praying or painting. All the time learning.

At the core we want people to walk in deeper intimacy with God in a constant awareness of His Presence and in the power of the Spirit. As people begin to walk closer to the Lord they discover more of their true identity as a son or a daughter of God and get activated to live life full of worship and ministry.

Everything is done in the context of family. There are teachings on different subjects related to identity, the heart of God, & worship. We have times of training and practicing ministry, outreach, and musical & artistic worship. Apprentices get to participate in and run certain aspects of monthly 12-24 hour worship events called Burns and serve in other ministry and worship settings around Gainesville & Adventures. We study and discuss a book or two in small groups and have one-on-one discipleship with each apprentice throughout the semester.

We can prepare and equip all we want but, in the end, it’s up to each person to buy in and do what it takes to grow. My heart is to see apprentices take the things they’ve learned and go and pour out the love of God in all areas of life and all around the world!

And they are! Apprentices from our last 2 semesters are already spread out around the US, S. Korea, Guatemala, the Dominican Republic and more. They’re getting jobs, they’re leading other missionaries, they’re serving at Adventures, they’re planting other worship communities. They’re shifting the atmosphere wherever they are and I’m so proud and pumped for them!

So there you have it. As best I can put it, this is worship track. This is what I get to do. A new semester with new apprentices starts in September. It’s going to be a party, so stay tuned!
